How Do I Give Myself an IVF Injection?

Starting your IVF journey can feel overwhelming, and one of the most common concerns patients share is the idea of giving themselves an injection. The good news? You’re not alone, and with the right guidance, most patients find that the process is much easier than they expected.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before you begin, make sure you have everything ready—your medication, syringe or pen, alcohol swabs, and a clean surface to work on. Preparing ahead helps reduce stress and keeps the process smooth.

Step 2: Choose the Right Injection Site

Most IVF injections are given in the abdomen or thigh. Your care team will guide you on the best spot, but a good rule of thumb is to stay at least two inches away from your belly button.

Step 3: Take It Step by Step

Clean the area with an alcohol swab, let it dry, then gently pinch the skin. Insert the needle at a 45–90 degree angle (depending on the medication and your nurse’s instructions), inject slowly, and remove the needle gently.

Step 4: Practice Makes It Easier

The first time can feel intimidating, but most patients report that the process gets much easier after the first few injections. Some even find comfort in making it part of a daily routine.

Step 5: Reach Out for Support

Remember, you don’t have to figure this out alone. At The Fertility Concierge, our nurses are always available to walk you through your first injection—whether virtually or in person. We’re here to make sure you feel confident and cared for every step of the way.
